<text>Within philosophical aesthetics, the question of what makes an object aesthetically valuable remains a perennial one. One influential response is that of aesthetic hedonism, which reduces an object’s aesthetic value to its capacity to afford pleasure. This paper challenges the hedonic view by drawing upon an underexplored aesthetic phenomenon: aesthetic akrasia, which presents a disjunction between one’s value judgement and one’s derivation of pleasure. Situating aesthetic akrasia against the premises of hedonism reveals that hedonism not only fails to account for aesthetic akrasia, but also misconstrues the nature of the relation between aesthetic judging and liking. In developing this account, this paper demonstrates how the premises of hedonism necessitate that liking unconditionally follows from judging aesthetic value - a claim that contradicts aesthetic reality. In light of this, the paper concludes that hedonism is increasingly untenable as a theory of aesthetic value.</text>

<text>Murdoch’s The Sovereignty of Good is often interpreted as suggesting that love requires recognizing the individual reality of one’s beloved. However, through a closer reading, I argue that Murdoch’s characterization of love is more nuanced. Specifically, I show that, due to ambiguity in her writing, Murdoch leaves the exact relationship between love and the perception of reality unclear. In this paper, I begin by unpacking this ambiguity. Then, I propose that this ambiguity allows for two possible kinds of interpretations of her view on love: the objective view, and the positive light view. Finally, I argue that the positive light view offers a better interpretation of Murdoch’s position, concluding that love, while rooted in reality, also exceeds it and transcends it.</text>

<text>Given that the peace process in Cyprus has to-date remained securitised with a strong reliance on Track 1 diplomacy, which has thus far failed to make significant progress, this study provides and analyses the viewpoints of Cypriot youth – and a limited selection of those that work and engage with them - which has long been a neglected demographic in relation to the Cyprus Problem and the Cyprus peace process. A total of 32 topics were discussed by participants, during a series of semi-structured focus groups and interviews, which resulted in a combined total of 98,000 words of qualitative data which has been analysed thematically. Participants of this study agreed that Cypriot youth remain disinterested in the Cypriot peace process, although their voices are often neglected by a peace process that is exclusionary and lacks transparency. Both Greek and Turkish Cypriots also felt that the education system in Cyprus promoted ethnonationalism and is unhelpful in developing bi-communal relationships. Many participants of this study were regularly involved in organisations that promote bi-communal activities - the challenges they face, particularly in encouraging engagement from a more diverse group of young Cypriots, are also given extensive discussion in this paper. Participants felt frustrated by the lack of progress in the peace process so far and they all expressed a strong desire for a solution to be achieved, often blaming a lack of political will and international support as the reason a solution has not yet been found after 50 years of failed negotiations. After discussing the views of participants, this paper argues that a multifaceted approach is essential to progress forward to an internationally accepted bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with a need to pursue significant education reforms, along with greater pressure from international actors, and a peace process that is truly transparent and inclusive. </text>

<text>The aim is to review literature concerning usage of online dating platforms and loneliness, and identify factors that may influence the relationship. Three questions were identified for this review: (i) the effectiveness of online dating in reducing loneliness, (ii) the role of population characteristics in influencing loneliness when using dating apps, (iii) the impact of dating app usage during the Covid Pandemic and loneliness. A comprehensive search across 5 databases yielded 152 research of which, 7 met the inclusion criteria through the PRISMA process. The main results was that (i) online dating platforms provide temporary relief from loneliness due to the initial social interactions, however for this to be maintained, in-person interactions is required, (ii) gender, age, sexual orientation, and a rejection-sensitivity personality trait are factors influencing the effectiveness of online dating in reducing loneliness, and (iii) the Covid-19 restrictions emphasise the importance of a physical presence in fulfilling social and emotional needs. The systemic review has practical implications for the real-world. Developers can implement features to encourage deeper connections, facilitating tools to support users in transitioning to in-person meetings, and the incorporation of emotional support to improve users’ mental health wellbeing. This review highlights opportunities for online dating platforms to improve by facilitating tools to address users complex social and emotional needs.</text>
