              <text>It is hypothesised that both cancer cell growth and chemotherapy drug tolerance can be dependent on the circadian rhythm, causing differences in treatment&#13;
efficiency at different times of the day. Chronotherapy aims to exploit this dependency to provide an optimal treatment plan for patients. This plan seeks to maximise the elimination of cancer cells while minimising drug toxicity resulting from chemotherapy. This paper aims to extend previous works and provide analyses of optimal solutions for various cancer treatment models, including scenarios in which growth is partially coupled with the circadian rhythm, cases where drugs target growth, and models that account for delayed drug effects. Using Pontryagin’s Minimum Principle (PMP), we found the switching function of each model that decides the optimal time period to apply or stop the drugs. In the first two models, we noted the aperiodic switching between full and no drugs in optimal solutions and explored the nature of the switching zones. While the optimal solution for the last case is complex, it is proven to be bang-bang and can be reduced to a simpler growth model using the Pseudo-Steady State Hypothesis (PSSH) for sufficiently fast drug absorption speeds. Furthermore, we presented the backward integration method to analyse the nature of optimal solutions. The exploration of optimal solutions provides a better understanding of optimal treatment plans for&#13;
chronotherapy models and offers insights into potential future analyses of more complex and clinically applicable models.</text>

              <text>How can we accurately detect and locate a modification on an RNA molecule using nanopore sequencing data? This is an open problem that requires ideas from both statistics and biology. Supervised by Professors Anastasia Papavasiliou and Jon Forster, I began by simulating the signal data from Oxford Nanopore devices, where a sliding window reads five bases on the mRNA chain at a time. Using R, we constructed a statistical framework which involves working with different distributions such as poisson, inverse gamma and the normal distribution to generate signal values. Then we analysed our signal values, performing hypothesis tests and calculating maximum likelihood scores in order to determine where modifications are likely to be on the mRNA chain. This year, after gaining valuable biological insight at the Laboratory of Immune Diversity in the German Cancer Research Centre in Heidelberg, I have created a greedy search algorithm to maximise our likelihood score and detect RNA modifications from the signal data. To improve the accuracy, we included a posterior likelihood calculation into our score and I also coded a birth-death algorithm. Then, I tested both methods with multiple reads (signal lists) per mRNA type which proved to be more accurate and created interesting results!</text>

              <text>Ghana possesses over 1.9 million hectares of irrigable land, yet less than 3% is currently utilized, with agriculture remaining largely rainfed. This research explores the transformative potential of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) in modernizing irrigation systems to address inefficiencies in energy use, water distribution, and equipment longevity. By integrating advanced motor control techniques and real-time systems using dSPACE MicroAutoBox III, the study demonstrates how VFDs can significantly reduce power consumption, mechanical stress, and over-irrigation. Mathematical modeling and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing validate the system’s performance under dynamic conditions. Results show up to 50% energy savings and 30% water conservation during partial load operations. The research recommends pilot deployments, technician training, and solar-VFD integration to support Ghana’s 2025 electrification goals. VFD technology offers a scalable, sustainable solution for enhancing agricultural productivity and resource efficiency across Ghana’s irrigation landscape.</text>
