Abstract

This paper seeks to examine introspective perceptions of intersectionality among queer women of colour; we analysed internalised behaviours and ideas of race, sexuality, and gender, and how these identities interacted with each other, as separate entities and also as one cohesive intersectional identity. The key themes found and examined were: othering and lack of belonging, lack of acceptance, hiding sexuality, familial duty and honour, religion, and then trans inclusivity has also been explored. The core theme of othering was unanimously present among participants, while the other themes were present in multiple pieces of written and spoken discourse. We also analysed the presence of race as a dominant social factor in self determination and realisation.
